I grab a book and tip-toe through the house, careful that no one sees me. Down the stairs, through the hall, and into the family room. I peak my head around the corner and examine the room and the glass windows going outside onto the deck.
The coast is clear.
I tuck the book under my arm and run over to the couch. In one motion, I’m jumping on it, and then I’m over it. And then I’m down. Hidden. Behind the couch. I’m free.
I crack the book and the adventure begins. At some point, I hear people looking for me. Mom asks if anyone has seen me. I stay quiet and read until the light in the room starts to get dim and I know it will be time for dinner soon. Two more pages, and then I sneak out and tip toe to my room.
As a child, I loved reading, and I read just about anything I could get my hands on. I still love reading, but it is only in the last decade that I recognized a love for a writing as well. It seems unreal, but I’m excited to be publishing my first three books, a trilogy about Lydia Miller and her quest to discover her real identity. This is all new to me–setting up a website, finding editors, and getting a cover designed. Hopefully at the end of it all, I’ll have a book out there. Or three.
